In November 2023, the Hungarian government introduced a new legislative proposal allowing investors to obtain a residence permit.
Previously, investors could secure temporary residency by purchasing real estate worth at least €155,000. Until 2017, Hungary also offered a permanent residency-by-investment program.
The new Hungary Golden Visa, launching on July 1, 2024, is open exclusively to non-EU and non-EEA citizens.
Applicants can choose between two investment options: contributing to a local real estate fund or making a donation to an accredited higher education institution.
The minimum required investment is €325,000. The Golden Visa residence permit is valid for 10 years and can be renewed once for the same duration.
